Anita Nahal

Anita Nahal is a poet, flash fictionist, children’s author, D&I consultant and professor. Nahal has authored one academic book, two books of poems, one book of flash fictions and three books for children besides over 30 articles in journals & blogs. She also writes periodically on LinkedIn. Nahal’s most recent data-oriented study on Ethnic and Cultural Diversity at HBCUs was published as a chapter in a book in 2015. Her creative works can be found in Aberration Labyrinth, Confluence, Better Than Starbucks, Aaduna, River Poets Journal, Colere and Lapis Lazuli. She received an Honorable Mention in the Concrete Wolf 2017 chapbook competition. Nahal is also a contributing editor with Aaduna.
Currently, Nahal is an Adjunct Professor at the University of the District of Columbia and previously has held various academic positions including as Mellon Fellowship Program Administrator, Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, Washington, DC; Assistant Provost for International Programs, Howard University, Washington, DC; Visiting Associate Professor of History, State University of New York at Binghamton, NY; Adjunct Professor, Chicago School of Professional Psychology-Washington, DC, George Mason University and Rider University; and Associate Professor of History, Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi, India. Nahal has been a visiting scholar, Beatrice Bain Research Group on Gender, University of California at Berkeley, Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence, State University of New York at Binghamton, and an NEH Summer Seminar award winner. Nahal has a Ph.D. in American Studies, M. Phil in American Studies, Master’s and Bachelor’s in History. She did her post-doc on African American women’s history. She also has three certifications in D&I. As a passion, besides writing, Nahal teaches Chair Yoga at senior living assisted homes.
Originally from India, Nahal now lives in the US with her son, Vikrant and daughter in law, Sumona. She is the daughter of Sahitya Akademi award-winning Indian novelist and professor, the late Dr. Chaman Nahal. Her mother, the late Dr. Sudarshna Nahal, was also an educationist and principal of a K-12 school. Nahal has traveled to 17 countries and speaks three foreign languages.
